Course content
1. Defining the concept of surdopedics. History. Present state. 2. Anatomy of the hearing organ. Physiology of the hearing organ. Terminology. 3.-4. Etiology and classification of hearing impairments, disorders. 5.-6. Diagnostics. Communicative systems. 7. The consequences of hearing impairment. The handicapped child. 8.-9. A cochlear implant. Remediating communicative abilities by using a CI. 10.Prevention. Compensatory and remedial aids. 11.The child suffering from hearing impairment in kindergarten. The teacher´s assistant. 12.The specifics of caring for the child suffering from hearing impairment. 13.The conditions for successful integration of the hearing umpaired child in kindergarten as related to the intact group. 14.Legislation.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the problems of hearing impairment sufferers and impart information on particular hearing impairments and their consequences.
Acquiring basic knowledge of surdopedics; a good understanding of basic surdopedic terminology.
Prerequisites
Ability to analyse a text; a solid understanding of special pedagogical and psychological terminology.

Completion of a seminar paper on a chosen theme related to hearing impairments
