Course content
|
Lectures: 1. Defining and the definition of the knowledge economy. 2. What is knowledge and what does it enable? 3. The role of information in society. 4. Knowledge, information and health - the right to information. 5. Knowledge and green economics. 6. Dangers and pitfalls of media influence in the environmental protection. 7. The knowledge economy and regional development. 8. Natural resources and their potential as a factor in the region. 9. Tourism vs. environmental protection. 10. Environmental management systems in the region. 11. The issue of urban and rural brownfields. 12. Waste Management. 13. Energy and climate in the territory. 14. Natural potential of the region in an international context. Seminars: Seminars will be focused on active work with information relating to the environmental changes and their economic impact (critical analysis of the newspapers on significant events - climate change, environmental disasters). It will also include a practical workshop in order to understand the broader context of management and its changes - economic interdependence of aesthetic and ecological environment. Students in the one-day excursion to the countryside with a different management are asked to take photos of the places that they would like to somehow change. The purpose of the changes can be proposal for an economic recovery, improving the aesthetic appearance or improve environmental conditions. A simulation of changes will be presented. In the presentation, students in a discussion have to justify why they decided to change that and set it in the broader economic, ecological and aesthetic contexts.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make students familiar with the environmental context of regional development. Environmental policy is very closely related to regional development policy. The concept of environmental context deals with the importance of environmental quality for the development of the region, the relationship of environmental policies and their impact on regional politics and vice versa. Implementation of the measure of one policy can significantly affect the efficiency of regional policy and vice versa. Among the policies there is a close relationship with many of the linkages and multiplier effects. Close ties of individual policies can be monitored e.g. in terms of demand for environmental quality in the region and its impact on tourism, in terms of natural resources, and its impact on development of the area, etc. The course also includes management of technical infrastructure. Infrastructure and its quality link economic, technical and environmental dimensions of regional development.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Written examination, Seminar work
Credit Requirements: A seminar paper. Credits will be awarded not earlier than 14 days before the end of the semester in accordance with the measure of Dean No. 124/2017 Article 15. Examination Requirements: Written test and oral exam. The examinations will be written 3 weeks before the beginning of the examination period in accordance with the measure of Dean No. 124/2017 Article 15.
