Course content
|
Lectures: 1. Competitiveness of European economy; 2. - 3. The measures to promote competitiveness and employment in Europe; 4. The 7th Framework Programme as a tool for promoting increased competitiveness and employment in Europe; 5. The barriers to European competitiveness; 6. The regularities of the functioning of labour markets in Europe; 7. The impact of globalization on employment; 8. Free movement of labour in Europe; 9. European Employment Services - EURES; 10. Employment policy in the Czech Republic and its institutional support; 11. Employment policy in the German-speaking countries; 12. The European Employment Strategy; 13. National Reform Programmes in the Czech Republic and the EU for strengthening competitiveness and employment; 14. The analysis of employment status, prediction of development, future competitiveness of Europe. Seminars: Theoretical knowledge will be tested in confrontation with concrete cases (for example already supported projects to promote competitiveness, the use of structural funds to promote competitiveness in the Czech Republic practice. Guided discussion on specific issues (for example the barriers to competitiveness of Europe). The causes of difference in the competitiveness of individual countries in Europe. Practical application of employment policies for enhancement of economic growth.

Learning outcomes
|
The main aim of this course is to acquaint students with issues related to competitiveness, its indicators and trends in free market conditions, or more precisely market economy. There the employment policy in the Czech Republic and Europe will be evaluated, also the impact of globalization on socio-economic development. At the same time presenting the impact of EU structural policy in the course of competitiveness in Europe.
Students after successful completion of this course will be able to explain and describe the evolution of fundamental processes in the labour market in Europe and the Czech Republic, recognize the structural funds and other measures to promote competitiveness and they will become acquainted with the operation of policies to boost Europe's competitiveness.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined exam, Seminar work
Requirements for the credit: Requirements for obtaining the credit: writing of 2 seminar papers that deal with the case studies resulting from a specialization of the course. The scope of work is approximately 15 pages. Credits will be awarded not earlier than 14 days before the end of the semester in accordance with the measure of Dean No. 124/2017 Article 15. Requirements for the examination: Students demonstrate knowledge of basic topics. The overall grade is based on the results of the seminar papers, examination and oral test. The examinations will be written 3 weeks before the beginning of the examination period in accordance with the measure of Dean No. 124/2017 Article 15.
