Learning outcomes
The course "Rural sociology and Landscape" introduces students to various aspects of the relationship between man and nature, with an emphasis on the transformation of the landscape and sociological exploration of the environment. The course is a continuation of the course "Rural Sociology", deepens some selected areas and deals with more general issues of the relationship of man and the environment, from the point of view of cultural ecology or rural sociological tradition in the USA, for example, the global environmental problems, the concept of ecological and carbon footprint, the issue of production and consumption of food or extraction of mineral resources. During lectures and seminars, students are also acquainted with the general problems of methodology of social sciences and research projects.
Students will acquire basic knowledge about the development of the cultural landscape, the current state of rural tradition and selected environmental problems. Students should be able to look at problems from different angles and create their own opinions. Students will also learn basic skills for preparing research projects: the formulation of questions, justification of research, and presentation of the project or a critical evaluation of other research projects. They will be able to apply this experience while working on their theses.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of English.
