Course content
Main field forage crops, meadow clover, alfalfa. Complementary field forage - purple clover, foxtail clover, clover, scabious clover. Supplementary and minor clover crops suitable for forage mixtures and for more permanent stands in water deficit conditions. Agrotechnics, nutrition, harvesting and conservation of forage and forage biomass. Importance and choice of forage varieties with regard to growing conditions. Clover-forage mixtures, their composition, agrotechnics and application. Production and non-production functions of forage crops, effects on the soil environment and soil water regime. The content will be further focused according to the topic of the PhD thesis, using scientific literature and databases.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Class attendance - 50 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 100 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 100 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim is to master the theoretical knowledge of ecological requirements, districtisation, agrotechnics and harvesting of field forage crops, both major, minor and complementary, and the importance of their cultivation for the agroecosystem and forage biomass production.
Ability to work with scientific literature, including foreign ones. Ability to analyze and synthesize the studied issues.
Prerequisites
Completion and successful completion of master's (engineering) studies.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

The student must demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the studied subject matter in the form of an oral or combined exam. Demonstration of knowledge in a credit test or submission of a semester work to the required extent may also be a requirement.
