Course content
1.-3. The concept and objectives of the educational area Man and Society with a focus on teaching cross-curricular topics and developing key competencies. Cross-curricular relations. Possibilities of using project teaching. 4. Personality and social education. Theoretical definition of the cross-curricular topic (description, thematic units and subtopics, objectives, motivation, teaching texts) and its practical mastery (recommended methods and forms). 5. Education of a democratic citizen (SOV). Theoretical definition of the cross-curricular topic (description, thematic units and subtopics, objectives, motivation, teaching texts) and its practical mastery (recommended methods and forms). 6. Education for thinking in European and global context. Theoretical definition of the cross-curricular topic (description, thematic units and subtopics, objectives, motivation, teaching texts) and its practical mastery (recommended methods and forms). 7. Multicultural education. Theoretical definition of the cross-curricular topic (description, thematic units and subtopics, objectives, motivation, teaching texts) and its practical mastery (recommended methods and forms). 8. Environmental education. Theoretical definition of the cross-curricular topic (description, thematic units and subtopics, objectives, motivation, teaching texts) and its practical mastery (recommended methods and forms). 9. Media education. Theoretical definition of the cross-curricular topic (description, thematic units and subtopics, objectives, motivation, teaching texts) and its practical mastery (recommended methods and forms). 10. Key competences and their development in BSS lessons: competences for learning. 11. Key competences and their development in BSS lessons: problem solving competences. 12. Key competences and their development in BSS lessons: communication competences. 13. Key competences and their development in BSS lessons: social and personal competencies. 14. Key competences and their development in BSS lessons: civic and working competences.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is a close interconnection of theoretical and practical didactic training of future teachers of Social Sciences at secondary schools and the development of their professional competencies. The emphasis is placed on direct interconnection with practice, the course leads students to interdisciplinary linking of the curriculum, using effective didactic methods and methods of work with regard to professional mastery of social sciences and contemporary modern teaching. Students are actively introduced to the current didactic issues related primarily to the issue of appropriate teaching methods in teaching cross-curricular topics and the development of key competencies in Basics in Social Sciences (BSS) lessons. Within the lessons, students continually work with portfolio they gradually elaborate and complete.
The main competetion of the graduate should be responsibility and ability in methodic and didactics ensure the civics lesson in the framework of the subject field.

Student performance assessment, Combined exam

Combined exam (oral verification of the knowledge of the topics + verification of the elaborated assignments from the seminar - student's portfolio; attendance and active participation in seminars).
