Course content
1. The concept and objectives of secondary education in relation to the educational area Man and society. Characteristics of the educational field Basics in Civic and Social Sciences. The definition of the subject Basics in Social Sciences (curriculum status, meaning, objectives, tasks, interdisciplinary character, cross-curricular relations). 2. Analysis of BSS textbooks and other suitable teaching aids. 3. Work of BBS teacher with FEP GV, FEP SOV and SEP. 4. Professional identity of BSS teacher. 5. Student's personality development in BSS lessons. 6.-8. Active introduction to organizational forms of teaching and effective teaching methods in BSS lessons. 9. Evaluation in BSS lessons and its specifics. 10. Preparation of BSS teacher for lesson. 11. Orientation to preparation for maturita exam. 12. Functions of educational advisor and class teacher. 13. Current problems of civic education (e.g. current amendments to FEPs). 14. Introduction to the programs of teaching BSS realized at grammar schools and selected secondary vocational schools.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is a close interconnection of theoretical and practical didactic training of future teachers of Social Sciences at secondary schools and the development of their professional competences. The course is based on the need to acquaint students with basic professional literature. The emphasis is placed on direct interconnection with practice, it leads students to interdisciplinary linking of the curriculum, using effective didactic methods and methods of work with regard to professional mastery of social science disciplines and contemporary modern teaching. In seminars, students are actively acquainted with the current didactic issues they will meet in their concurrent and continuous teaching practice (or as part of assistance practice). Work with portfolio is continually included in the lessons, which students gradually elaborate and complete. Student performance assessment, Combined exam

Combined exam (oral verification of the knowledge of the topics + verification of the elaborated assignments from the seminar - student's portfolio; analysis of selected teaching methods, preparation of a teaching unit, analysis of a selected textbook; attendance and active participation in seminars).
