1. Introductory lesson: The concept oc cultivation/culture and the Western tradition. 2. Homer and the ideals of Greek culture 3. Greek tragic poets 4. Socratic and Sofistic paideia 5. Plato 6. Aristotle 7. Stoics and Epicureans 8. Cicero 9. Virgil 10. Augustine 11. The nature of medieval culture and classical tradition 12. Dante 13. Petrarch and Renaissance humanism
