Course content
1.-2. Man as an object of knowledge (philosophical, sociological, economic point of view) 3. Man and society, non-industrial civilization, characteristics, types, historical overview 4.-5. Man and nature, environmentalism, endangered culture, ecological crisis 6.-7. Man and technology, industrial civilizations, characteristics, types, historical overview 8. Man and his world, natural world as a philosophical problem 9. Man and knowledge, the problem of power and knowledge 10.-12. Postmodernism as a cultural phenomenon 13.-14. Globalization

Learning outcomes
The subject has an interdisciplinary character and serves as an introduction into the problems connected with the relation of man and society from the philosophical and sociological point of view. It focuses on the historical overview of the types of human society and on the relation of man to the world as a whole.
The student is acquainted with elementary terminology and is able to employ this knowledge in the analysis of texts related to the subject. He/She is also able to relate various philosophical and sociological theories to the problems of contemporary world.

Assessment methods and criteria

Knowledge of the content of lectures, knowledge of basic literature.
