Course content
1) The description of the subject The Basics of Social Sciences (its status in the curricular, role, aims, tasks, interdicsciplinary nature, intersubject relations etc.) 2) Analysis of the basics of social sciences textbooks and other teaching materials. 3) Handling with The Framework Educational Programme for Secondary Grammar Schools and Vocational Schools and School Education Programmes. 4) Professional identity of civic education teacher. 5) Pupil´s /student´s personality. 6) Active acquainting students with organisational forms of teaching and effective teaching methods in the basic of social sciences lessons. 7) Assessment. 8) The development of key competences. 9) Cross-section topics. 10) Preparation for the basics of social sciences teacher and his lesson 11) Orientation towards preparation for maturita exam. 12) Function of a career master/mistress. 13) Up-to-date problems of civic education (current changes of The Framework Educational Programme) 14) Getting acquainted with programmes of teaching the basics of social sciences at secondary grammar schools and selected secondary professional schools.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Activating (simulations, games, drama)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is a close interconnection of theoretical and practical didactical preparation of trainee-teachers of Basics of Social Sciences at secondary schools and the development of their professional competences. The course reflects the need to inform students about basic professional literature. The emphasis has been put on direct connection with practice and the course guides students to the interconnection of disciplines and their contents (the function of philosophy), using effective didactical ways and working methods with regard to mastering social scientific disciplines and modern trends in teaching. While attending seminars students actively meet the up-to-date didactical problems in connection with their continuous and uninterrupted pedagogical practice (or with assistant practice). Students portfolios summarizing their teaching experience from the courses Assistant Teacher Practice, Weekly Teaching Practice and Block Teaching Practice are continuously implemented into the content of the course.
