Course content
1) General Introduction: terminology, basic characteristics of Biblical texts; how to quote biblical texts. 2) Old Testament: nature and origin of OT books and genres; 3) The Bible in the last centuries before the Common Era: translations, interpretations, OT apocryphs. 4) New Testament: the person of Jesus of Nazareth, Gospels, Letters, Revelation; 5) Bible in the Middle Ages: translations, characteristics, NT apocryphs, ways of interpretations; 6) Renaissance, Humanism, Reformation: new ways of reading the Bible; 7) Modern and Contemporary Criticism: how we read Bible today.

Learning outcomes
The course is aimed at the students of humanities. Its purpose is twofold: 1) to introduce the student to the Bible, its structure and content; to present the main themes and texts from both the Old and the New Testament. 2) to present practical examples of how the biblical text has been understood and absorbed in the western culture (in art, music, literature, vocabulary etc.)
The student will acquire the basic acquaintace with the Bible and will understand those aspects of the Western culture, wich are related to or based on the Bible.

Assessment methods and criteria
Colloquium, Test

1) to answer succesfully and in due time the tests in Moodle. Only two of the tests may have the rating under 100 percent. 2) to pass the final written test (at least 85 % needed). Detailed information and dates are to be found in Moodle.
