Course content
1. Charitable activity in the history of the early church. 2. Helping others in the Middle Ages and early modern times. 3. Enlightenment - cooperation of the Enlightenment state and the church in the fight against social problems. 4. The social system in the Habsburg monarchy and the development of the social situation in Europe in the nineteenth century. 5. The involvement of the Catholic Church in the social problems of the first half of the twentieth century. 6. Social and charitable care from the middle of the twentieth century to the present: Cross-section of the latest history of the state and the church and their results in documents; a time of totalitarianism in our country; current solutions and challenges to the relationship between church and state in the field of social services.

Learning outcomes
The course aims to acquaint students with the topics of the historical development of Christian charity, which is one of the basic services that the church has provided in society since its inception, and more generally deals with the church's relationship to social issues and helping others in history. The student should acquire professional knowledge of the historical development of Christian charity not only during the last two millennia but especially during the last three centuries, not only because the historical roots of modern theology are found in the complex relationships of the religious and social milieu of this period. but also that it was at this time that the relationship between the church and the state was formed, on the basis of which the position of persons and ecclesiastical institutions engaged and working in the field of services to the needy was formed.
Student knows to explain and interpret the problematic of this course.

The course does not presuppose any input knowledge beyond the requirements of the admission procedure.

Assessment methods and criteria
Test

- the study of compulsory literature - passing the final test The course ends with a credit, for which you must pass a written test. The minimum percentage for passing the test is 75% of correctly answered questions. There are a total of 16 questions, ie the limit for obtaining credit is 12 correctly answered questions. The questions are open and closed, the time for writing a written test is 45 minutes. The announcement of regular and corrective dates of examinations and their organization takes place according to the Study and Examination Regulations of the JU and the related measure of the Dean of the TF JU (documents are published on the website of the faculty, section Study and Official Board).
