The subject covers the following topics: 1 . Augustine and Pelagius: a dispute about freedom and grace 2. Second Council in Nicey 3. The Fourth Council of Constantinople 4. The Great Papal Councils of the Middle Ages and their doctrines 5. The History of Ancient and Medieval Monasticism and the significance of regular life for European civilization

Learning outcomes
|
The course is aimed at enhancing knowledge of the church history of the first thirteen centuries AD. It deals with developing selected topics, which were only briefly mentioned in the basic course. The aim of this subject is to gain knowledge on topics they are easily connected with other particular theological subjects, respectively, increases the student's skills for understanding contents of study of theology.
Students will acquire knowledge on topics that are then easily connected with other particular theological subjects. Graduating the subject will increase his / her competencies for the correct understanding of the study contents of the studied subject.

Prerequisites

The course presupposes knowledge at the level of basic course of history of the Church.
