Course content
The subject consists of five major thematic blocks: The history of the Church until 313; the first six ecumenical councils and their doctrines; Church in the early Middle Age - the End of the Antik, the spread of Christianity to the new peoples since the fourth to the seventh century; the Church in the since the eighth century till the beginning of the eleventh century; the Church at the time of the Middle Ages - from the Gregorian Reform to the Western Schism.

Learning outcomes
The course is aimed at gaining a basic orientation in church history from the beginning of the first to the end of the twentieth century. The student will gain knowledge about the history of Christianity and the development of the church, mainly in the Western cultural context, with emphasis on socio-cultural-political context and links with the fields of theology, religion and philosophy. The course consists of nine larger thematic blocks. These blocks are the same for all forms of study: 1. History of the Church until 313 2. The first six ecumenical councils and their teachings 3. The Church in the early Middle Ages - the end of antiquity, the spread of Christianity to new nations in the 4th - 7th century 4. The Church in the early Middle Ages - from the 8th century to the beginning of the 11th century 5. The Church in the High Middle Ages - from the Gregorian reform to the Avignon exile 6. The Church in the 14th and 15th centuries: the papacy of Avignon, the great papal schism, conciliarism, the Renaissance papacy 7. The Church in the 16th to 18th centuries: the Reformation and the Catholic Reformation, from the Baroque to the Enlightenment, missions 8. The Church in the 19th century: from the French Revolution to the end of the 19th century 9. The Church in the 20th century.
The student is able to interpret basic questions of the general history of the Church since 1st. till 14th. century.
Prerequisites
The subject does not expect any input knowledge beyond the requirements of the admission procedure.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Study of obligatory literature. Passing the final oral exam - the knowledge of the basic concepts, the orientation in the historical context is required.
