Course content
|
The course is divided into three basic topics: 1. Fascist totalitarian regimes in Europe 2. German National Socialism 3. Communist regimes in Europe Each thematic unit is divided into the following subsections: 1. Historical, political and philosophical roots of the totalitarian system 2. The destabilization of the existing political system and the process of takeover of power 3. The process of consolidating totalitarian power or searching enemies, the crimes of the totalitarian regime 4. The manifestation of disagreement and civil courage - gallery of victims of the totalitarian regime 5. The end of the totalitarian regime 6. Coping with the past

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the roots and the constitution of totalitarian regimes, the criminal practices of totalitarian regimes, civil courage demonstrations and coping with the inheritance of totalitarian regimes. All these aims focus on Continental Europe.
The student gains the competence to be able to interpret the issue of the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century.

Ability to work with literature in foreign language for preparation of a paper.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance assessment, Seminar work
Student of the KS form - active communication per email with the guarantor of the subject, individual consultations and two papers in a written form.
