Course content
1) Prehistory and birth of art (Paleolithic, Neolithic, Celts in Bohemia) 2) Egypt, Mesopotamia, Crete 3) Ancient Grece and Rome 4) Early Christian Art - Byzantine Empire and Ancient Slavics (myths and legends) 5) Carolinian Renaissance and the Great Moravia 6) Romanesque Art, the beginnings of the Gothic Style and its expansion in Europe 7) Gothic in the Czech Lands 8) Renaissance in Europe and in the Czech Lands 9) Baroque Art 10) Classicism and Romantisme 11) Realism of the 19th century, Impressionisme and Art Nouveau 12) Modern art before the First World War 13) Art between 1918-1945 14) Art after 1945

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The lectures will offer students a basic orientation in the history of art and its cultural-historical context with a special regard to their future profession of pre-school teachers. The lectures will be focused on the most important works of art and artists of the Czech Lands in context to the development of art in the world.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Knowledge of the basic terms, of the periodization of history of art, elementary style atribution and datation of works of art.
