Course content
The importance of poultry breeding. Laying and its characteristics. Breeding of poultry, basics of hatching, embryonic development, principles of poultry sexing. Physical characteristics and technological value of eating eggs. Biological value and evaluation of hatching eggs. Poultry slaughter performance. Growth in relation to carcass yield. Feathers, its characteristics and use. Production of poultry droppings. Breeds and productive types of fowl, turkeys, ducks, Muscovy duck and geese. Technological process of egg production. Technological processes of rearing, breeding and fattening of broiler-type hens, turkeys, ducks, Muscovy duck and geese. Basics of non-traditional poultry breeding (Japanese quail, pearl, ostrich). Basics of poultry breeding. Testing and evaluation of poultry performance (performance test).

Learning outcomes
Students will become acquainted with performance characteristics, breeding techniques of individual poultry breeds and categories in different types and breeding work of poultry
Extensive professional and systematic knowledge in the field of poultry breeding. Knowledge of current trends in poultry breeding.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of physiology, reproduction, genetics and nutrition in poultry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam, Seminar work, Interim evaluation

Active attendance at seminars. Writing of seminar paper.
