Course content
Content of lectures: Significance, current problems and perspectives of sheep rearing, growth and mutton production, reproduction of ewes, detection and synchronization of oestrus, insemination and fertility of herds, the most important sheep breeds of world and in the Czech Republic, systems of breeding, breeding programs, organization and economics in sheep rearing, breeds and purpose of goats, marketing products of sheep and goat. Content of practices: Wool production, wool properties and sorting, milk production, sheep milk and composition, milking, sheep milk processing, breeds of sheep and their classification, techniques of sheep rearing, rearing of lambs, rearing of breeding ewe-lambs and ram-lambs, feeding of lambs, pasture, the technology of sheep breeding, breeding and nutrition of goats, health and veterinary problems in herds.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Excursion, Practical training

Learning outcomes
Teaching is focused mainly on the characteristics of breeds and the main purpose of sheep and goats, problems of fertility, techniques of sheep and goat breeding, including current health and veterinary problems.
Theoretical knowledge and practical skills for sheep and goat breeders or zootechnical work in sheep or goat breeding.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of morphology, physiology, nutrition and genetics farm animals.

Combined exam, Seminar work

Active attendance at seminars and field seminars.
