Course content
|
he importance of laboratory animals and animal experiments. Classification of laboratory animals in terms of microbial colonization (conventional, specified pathogen-free, gnotobiotic). Legislation relating to breeding, housing, transport and experiments on animals. Basic anatomy and physiology. Basics of zoohygiene and zootechnics. Rearing of mice, rats and rabbits for laboratory purposes. Animal selection and zootechnical documentation. Nutrition of laboratory animals. Health control, veterinary prevention and major diseases of laboratory animals. Methods of collection of biological material from different species of laboratory animals. Methods of anaesthesia. Use of livestock for experimental purposes.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basics of laboratory animal science and legislation concerning the breeding, transport and experimental use of laboratory animals.
Students will gain knowledge about biology, breeding and use of laboratory animals, methods of obtaining biological material in different species of laboratory animals, methods of anesthesia and analgesia.

General knowledge of zoology, morphology and physiology.

Students are acquainted with the requirements necessary for successful completion of the course at the beginning of the study
