Course content
|
Content of lectures: The significance of ethology in animal husbandry. Introduction to applied ethology. Applied ethology, ethological comparative observation of domestic animals, free-range breeding. Stress and mechanisms for adaptation. Special ethology of cattle. Ethology of pasture breeding. Mother and offspring interaction - imprinting. Principles of sheep and goats ethology. Principles of horse ethology. Principles of pig ethology (wild vs. domesticated pig). The pig sociology. Sow and piglet interaction. Family breeding of pigs. Ethology of scratching poultry. Ethology od rabbits and guinea pigs. Legal solutions.Content of practices: Methods of ethological observations. Social behaviour of animals - sociology. Ethics of animal breeding and dealing with animals.

Learning outcomes
|
Place emphasis is on use of applied ethology. The students will an understanding basic life manifestation of behaviour of individual farm animal in relation to the technological systems of stabling in relation to animal welfare and ethics of manipulation with animals in production process with a view to due legal measures.
Students will gain specific knowledge about behviour of individual species and categories of farm animals with respect to different housing systems.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Combined exam, Test
Course credit award: Active participation in practical excercises (max. 1 excused absence) 2 credit tests, 3rd and 4th lesson (together for at least 140%, possible correction at the end of the semester from the whole content of the curriculum, max. 2x) Exam: Writing test (70 %) + exam.
