Course content
1. History and present level of reproduction. Perspectives of the use of insemination in agriculture. 2. Anatomy of male and female genitals, anatomical differences between individual species. 3. Physiology of reproduction and neuro-humoral regulation of the cycle. Sexual maturity, reflexes and behavior. 4. Spermatogenesis and properties of ejaculate. Cross-species differences in ejaculate quality. 5. Collection and evaluation of semen of individual species. Semen processing and conservation - procedure, methods, interspecies differences. 6. Insemination of cattle - selection of dams for insemination, methods and procedure of insemination of cows and heifers. 7. Insemination of pigs - selection of swine for insemination, procedure of insemination of sows, ensuring insemination in pig breeding. 8. Insemination of sheep and goats - preparation for fertilization, selection of ewes, methods and procedure of insemination of sheep and goats. 9. Insemination of poultry - anatomy and physiology of reproductive systems of farm birds, insemination of individual species of poultry. 10. Reproduction of horses - selection of mares and stallions for breeding, natural breeding and insemination. 11. Fertilization, diagnosis of pregnancy, fetal development. Evaluation of reproduction results. 12. Physiology of parturition, treatment of dams and progeny - interspecies differences. 13. Health problems during pregnancy and parturition. Causes of male and female fertility disorders. 14. Embryo transfer - methods of embryo collection, transfer, division and conservation. Application of biotechnical methods in animal breeding.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to acquaint students theoretically and practically with the rules of reproduction, pregnancy and parturition of individual species of livestock, with the latest biotechnological methods in reproduction and their application.
Can explain the biology of reproduction, anatomy and physiology of the genitals of livestock. Can describe methods of collecting, evaluating and conserving ejaculate of sires. Can practically evaluate the obtained ejaculate. Can choose dams for breeding or insemination. Can calculate herd fertility indexes of each livestock species.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Active participation in exercises. Elaboration of laboratory protocols and seminar work.
