Course content
Cattle breeding importance, number, and performance of cattle in the Czech Republic and abroad, production types of cattle, basic cattle breeds and their characterization, evaluation of exterior and its relation to yield capabilities. Milk and meat performance, influences, aspects affecting it. Cattle fertility, control methods of cattle reproduction process and reproduction indexes. Control the heredity of production traits and prescription breeding value. The selection programs, testing. Welfare of animals end ethics of breeding. Technology of stabling of individual categories of cattle. Breeding of cows without commercial production of milk. Cattle herd turnover and economics of breeding.

Learning outcomes
The lectures in cattle husbandry are primarily focused on the factors, affecting the level of meat and milk yield, breeding work methods and husbandry technology principles of individual categories. The objective of the course is to provide the students with knowledge of the most recent scientific and practical findings when are decisive in increasing the yield and making husbandry feasible.
Theoretical knowledge and practical skills for work of zootechnics - specialists for cattle breeding.
Prerequisites
Standard knowledge of anatomy, physiology, genetics, zootechnics and animal nutrition.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam, Seminar work

Active participation in exercises and excursions. Elaboration of seminar work.
