Course content
Essential nutritional factors, feed terminology. Characteristics and digestibility of nutrients. Characteristics of feeds and their use. Optimization of feed rations. Preparation and preservation of feed. Feeding technique. The relationship between animal nutrition and farm economics.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Individual tutoring

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of nutrition and feeding of ruminants and with the characteristics and use of feed.
Competence on the importance and functions of essential nutrients in the animal organism. Ability to characterize feeds, suitability of classification for livestock. Competence for appropriate preparation and preservation of feed in relation to individual species and categories of animals. Ability to define the need for nutrients and energy, including the optimization of feed diets.
Knowledge of high school chemistry, biology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Seminar work

The course is completed by an exam, which precedes the continuous assessment.
