Course content
1. Protection of animals at the moral, legal and economic level. 2-3. Animal health legislation. 4. Principles of animal husbandry and welfare. 5. Health and disease. 6. Diseases and their basic functional and morphological manifestations 7. Ways of transmission of infectious diseases. 8. Biosecurity in livestock breeding. 9. Conventional and unconventional procedures in animal health protection. 10. The influence of animal husbandry technology on the occurrence of infectious and non-infectious diseases. 11. Health and hygiene safety and biological value of food of animal origin. 12. Current health situation in livestock breeding in the Czech Republic. 13. Procedures and strategies for the application of veterinary medicinal products. 14. Humans and domestic animals as a source of infections for livestock.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Demonstration, Projection

Learning outcomes
Present concept of health protection and prevention in animal diseases as a part of public health.
The student will gain advanced knowledge and skills in the prevention of livestock diseases and the impact of breeding technology on animal health. Students will use the acquired knowledge in agricultural practice in the detection and elimination of the cause of animal health disorders caused by both infectious agents and inappropriate breeding methods.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of biology, zoology, animal breeding, zoohygiene and animal nutrition.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Seminar work

Compulsory participation in laboratory and field exercises and organized field trips, presenting and submission of semestral work.
