Course content
Students are placed into 2 groups according to their language skills. Level I - Pre-Intermediate - textbook 4th Edition New Headway - Pre-Intermediate, SB, WB 1. Introduction, course requirements; Un.1 - tense revision, reading Getting to know you, listening 2. Present, Simple, Past tenses - question, negative, reading 3. What, How, Where... questions, homonyms, dictionary use, reading - Blind date, social expressions 4. Listening - My oldest friend, grammar practice, roleplay, speaking, prepositions, phonetics, WB 5. Un. 2 Present Simple vs Continuous, have got, Whatever makes you happy, listening - Two neighbours 6. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, time expressions, text How happy are you, conversation 7. Daily life, adverbs, verb collocations, social expressions, listening, prof. text 8. Character discription, reading, tense revision, WB, irregular verbs 9. Un. 3 - prepositions of place, grammar practice, speaking, time expressions 10. Prof. terminology, reading - Escape from the jungle (listening - Past tense revision), video 11. Learning outcomes
The subject English Language 1 (OJA/ANJ1), assigned for 3-year-long bachelor study programmes and recommended for 2nd year students, aims to deepen actual language skills of students and extend their knowledge by more complex grammmar, general vocabulary and basic professional terms of their field of study and thus enable them to understand professional texts and communicate and study in English-speaking countries.
Students will improve their actual language skills - speaking, reading, listening, writing, and will extend general as well professional vocabulary in their branch of study.
Prerequisites
Pre-condition - successful passing of OJA/JZKA - 70%.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Test

70% attendance, written test min. 70%. Whole-semester activity My English Project - How I Tried to Improve My Passive English - write and hand out a short report (max. one page A4) about volunatary home activities of any kind or form leading to improving your passive English till the beginning of the exam term.
