Course content
1. Cradle of Slavs - opinions/ Establishment of the first state on the territory of Eastern Slavs - share of Varjags - orientation on the map 2. Internal and foreign policy of Kiev Russia. Period of feudal splintering - causes /Invasion of Tatars and transfer of statehood to the East. 3. Russian self-government as system/issues of its establishment - Ivan Groznyj and expansion to the East. Period of " smuta " - weakening of central power. 4. Peter I. - new stage in the development. 5. Accession of Catherine II. - culmination of the Russian self-government. " Russian " Enlightenement. 6. Rebellion of Dekabrists - start of the stage of principal change in the Russian society/ Periods of Russian national-liberation fight in the fight against tsarism. The first important liberation. Movement of Narodnici - its place in the Russian history. 7. Establishment of socially democratic movement. Role of V.I. Lenin/Bolsheviks x Mensheviks. Jiskra and situation before World War I. Russian - Japanese war. 8. The first Russian revolution. World War one and further deepening of the crisis. Revolution in 1917 and the following civil war. Post-war renewal - NEP. Fight for leadership in the Bolshevik Party. Transition to the directive way of party leadership as all as the society/ establishment of Soviet Union. Victory of Stalin and the new economic as well as politic direction. 9.The first five-year-plans. Purges in the party/ International position and Soviet Union Policy. Pre-war situation in Europe/ World War two. 10. Results of World War two and the change of relations of powers in the world. /Establishment of two blocs. Cold war. 11. Causes, procedure and results of " perestroika " in 80ies of the past century. Mikhail Gorbachov. 12. The political situation at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Vladimir Putin and his policy. 13. - 14. Summarization of the issue / Repeating and training.

Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on choice chaps from Russian historical development from the oldest period to the present. Fundamental terms Russian history in causality of phenomenon. Formation historical traditions. Important evolutionary period in Russia and in other easter states.
The graduates can be acquainted with different historical periods of development easter Slavs not only in the factual sphere, but they can master also questions relationship, whereas the students understand at the same time all the subject matter at a geographical level. The graduates illustrate historical events also by knowledge in geography.
Prerequisites
Knowledge basic historical datums about Russia.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Interim evaluation

Regular attendance in lectures and seminars. The 18th century - remarkable data and events. The 19th and 20th century - event casualties.
