Course content
Textbook: Complete PET (Units 4-6) + supplementary materials Grammatical topics: Comparative and superlative adjectives Gradable and non-gradable adjectives Modals (ability, possibility, obligation and prohibition) Present perfect Vocabulary topics: Holiday activities Buildings and places Personal feelings, opinions, experiences Participial adjectives TV programmes, culture Clothes, colours

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquire the vocabulary and grammatical structures corresponding with the syllabus as well as managing basic communication adequate to the relevant level.
Further improvement and consolidation of knowledge to acquire level B1. The students should understand the basic terminology and talk about current affairs. They understand texts containing feelings, events, using basic communication vocabulary. Can communicate in everyday situations and can freely discuss topics that are familiar to them. They can talk, express their desires and may write texts on their interests or common letters.
Prerequisites
English language knowledge level A2. The course follows after the A1 and A2 courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Systematic student observation, Test, Seminar work

The attendance is voluntary. The student is not obliged to purchase the textbook used in the lessons. To pass the final test at least 65 % must be achieved (dates subject to agreement, 1 resit). A translation related to the language taught will be part of the test. The student shall prepare a ppt presentation on an agreed topic (approximately 10 min) with an oral commentary (not to be read). The presentation will also involve a discussion with other students and the lecturer and must be presented by the beginning of the credit week (alternative dates only upon agreement). Other options of passing the course are defined in Vice-Dean's Announcement No. 1/2016. In case the student decides to use the option to replace the final test with the QPT at the British Centre (or the entire subject with the PET certificate and higher), he /she shall inform the lecturer about it no later than on the day of the scheduled final test. (Please note: The Quick Placement Test is only valid for the relevant academic year and must be taken during the academic year in question).
