Course content
The course will consist of the following topics: 1) Individual food components and their metabolism: energy, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and antinutritional factors in the deeper context. 2) Nutritional requirements of different fish species and their stages in the deeper context. 3) Differences in the digestive system of different fish species. 4) Feed formulation production. 5) Alternative feed components. 6) Various treatments and storage of feed. 7) Examples of feed formulations for different fish species and their stages. 8) Feeding strategies in extensive and intensive fish farming. 9) Quality assessment of feed: nutrient feed composition, biological value of feed, feed conversion, digestibility. 10)Impact of feed on fish quality. 11)Methods of assessing the feed quality. 12)Special feed, medicated feed, finishing feeding. 13)Nutritional pathology. 14)Trends in fish nutrition. 15)Research on fish nutrition. 16)Sustainable development in fish nutrition.

Learning outcomes
The goal of this course is to broaden the students knowledge in the field of fish nutrition gained from the course "Fish nutrition and feeding" taught during Bachelor's degree.
After the course students will have following knowledge about fish nutrition: They will be familiar with the individual food components, their metabolism and sources. They will know the nutritional requirements of different fish species and their stages, and can suggest the formulation of feed. Will be familiar with processes in the production of feeds, their treatment and storage. They will be familiar with methods for assessing the quality of feed: nutrient feed composition, biological value of feed, feed conversion, digestibility. In addition, the student will know the issues of sustainable development, alternative feed components and trends in the fish nutrition. They will know the basics of issues concerning influence of nutrition on fish flesh quality.
Prerequisites
Teaching of this course builds upon the course "Fish nutrition and feeding" taught during Bachelor degree. Seemingly overlapping themes will be discussed in the deeper context. The students who have not studied this course on the bachelor's level (eg, those who enter from related fields or other faculties and universities) will automatically be asked to update their knowledge to be able to understand the substance and successfully completed the course. However, it is not required to complete the previous course "Fish nutrition and feeding" to be able to enter this course.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test, Seminar work, Development of laboratory protocols

Requirements: at least 80% attendance at seminars, passing two tests with at least 60% success, written seminar work.
