Course content
Introduction to ichthyology (1.). Fish evolution (2.). Zoogeography (3.). Determination, meristic and plastic parameters of fishes (4.). Natality and mortality of fishes (5.). Growth, reproduction, development's stages and reproductive ecological groups of fishes (6. - 8.). Fish migration (9.). Fish community, behaviour - intraspecies and interspecies relations (10.). Characteristics of fish populations (evaluation, estimates and calculations) (11.). Major groups of fishes - cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes), jawless fish (Agnatha) and skeletal fish (Osteichthyes) (12. - 14.).

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Monitoring, Laboratory
  • Preparation for credit - 20 hours per semester

  • Semestral paper - 20 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 10 hours per semester

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to learn students the properly knowledge of Ichthyology (e.g. general ecological ichthyology, characterization the major groups of fishes) and their study.
Students will gain ichthyologic overview and get familiar with terminology in foreign language for more than eighty species of fish, fish reproductive environmental groups, important processes and changes that affect fish communities.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of ichthyologic characteristics of species, populations and communities of fish and lamprey.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Submission and defense of seminary paper. Correct answering of the credit written test questions. Correct answering 3 questions of oral examination.
