For European programs and their local variants, there is no deeper "cultural dimension" ever obvious. In the case of the European region of Bayern-Böhmen-Sachsen, however, there is a long and rich history of mutual relations, the successor of which is in some sense the "Festival Mitte Europas" as a regular meeting of artists from these three countries. The seminar will follow cross-border relationships and artistic influence based on many examples of architecture, music, painting, literature and culture of everyday life. The starting point will be the earlier epochs, but also the period between 1945 and 1989, and the region will thus be introduced as a culturally-historical equivalent to the Vltava-Danube region.
Students will gain awareness of the most important forms and trends of culture in the Czech-Bavarian-Saxon border area in the past and the present.
