Course content
1. Introduction to the seminar 2. The infinitive and participle as part of the verbal complex or sentence equivalent 3. Subordinate clauses as a modified expression of sentence elements 4.-6. Types of subordinate clauses 7.-9. The syntactic expression of semantic relations between sentential members/clauses 10.-11. Aktive and passive voice - conversion, semantic role 12. Tendencies of contemporary German: a compressed expression, nominal phrases and verbalization 13. Selected problems: negation, paired conjunctions 14. Summary

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is based on readings of texts and analysis of selected sentences and presenting typical problems of German syntax and to deepen the understanding of the structure of the German language. Attention is focused primarily on the more complicated sentences and sentence structures and varied syntactic options for the expression of instructional content.
Ability to communicate on level B2+/C1.
Prerequisites
German language skills on the level B2+/C1 (CEFR).

Written examination, Student performance assessment, Analysis of student's language skills, Test

Regular preparation, fulfillment of required tasks on a continuous basis, exam. Participation in seminars and related events is obligatory. The course will be taught in German.
