Learning outcomes
Even at the beginning of the 21st century, German contemporary literature was marked by the turn of 1989 and its consequences. But this is just one strand in an increasingly diverse literature in the 21st century, whether one looks to Germany, to Austria or to Switzerland. Multiculturalism is as present as literary reactions to recent social processes, such as gender debates, identity politics, questions of global, European or national cultures and cultural influences. Last but not least, these tendencies also "conquer" linguistically different expressions, which become visible in this literature. The event will observe and discuss these trends in selected texts of various origins.
Students will be in a position to see the diverse cultural currents of a German contemporary literature and to begin to problematize. They also gain knowledge about the social and political prerequisites of this literature
Prerequisites
Students need a survey on several main social and political developments in recent Germany, mainly form 1989 to nowadays. Will be taught on the level B2.
