Course content
1. Introduction - multimedia, hypermedia 2. The production of media products - dynamic and static media, production chain, the script 3. Text and Hypertext - perception, text formats, hypertext and interactivity, technology 4. Bitmap graphics - usage, formats, image transformations, additional hardware, design and creation 5. Vector graphics - usage, formats and transformations, design and creation 6. 3D graphics - characteristics, scene description, rendering, design and creation, alternative use of hardware (parallel computing) 7. Sound processing - fundamentals of acoustics, speech analysis and synthesis, control of PC 8. General sound - formats, transformations, creation and processing 9. Structured sound - principles, creation and editing 10. Video - formats, animation, design principles, screenplays, stages of implementation, hardware, design and production including editing 11. Virtual Reality - characteristics, technologies, possibilities of usage 12. Distribution of media works - classical way, the Internet, mobile technology, searching in the media 13. Data Presentation - presentation technology, structure and creating of multimedia presentation, interactivity, tools selection 14. Multimedia communication - IP telephony, video conferencing, mobile communications, complex communication systems 15. Multimedia in business practice - e-learning, advertising and marketing communications

Learning outcomes
The goal of the course in the lectures is to provide students with an overview of the modern and actual area of multimedia technology and in the seminars the practical experience of their production and utilization. The focus will be placed on the practical and creative teamwork. Main areas of multimedia will be discussed in separate topics. Graphic focuses mainly on the expansion of knowledge in this area including 2D and 3D image transformations, graphics hardware and 3D graphics. The audio and video areas will also be discussed in detail, again with emphasis on practical application and usage. The creation of animations will also be mentioned. Special emphasis will be placed on the multimedia presentation of data, especially their visualization. A separate section will focus on multimedia distribution through the Internet. The content of lectures will be mainly theoretical associated with the theme of the course. In the exercises students will be acquainted with current technologies on which they will solve practical projects in teams.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: - practically create media products (graphics, audio, video) - use multimedia communication tools - use selected internet technologies for multimedia distribution - know the possibilities of using multimedia in corporate and scientific practice - select and use the appropriate way of presenting data, products and services for that purpose - use multimedia communication tools and services - focus on media production and media production and distribution - prepare the base documents for producing a simple media product - cooperate in different positions in the team

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Analysis of student's work activities (technical works), Analysis of creative work (musical, visual, literary), Combined exam, Seminar work

During the semester, students work on projects arising from the subject matter. The exam is evaluated on the basis of semester, semestral work and theoretical test. Terms of endings: Compleeting exercise projects (about 5 tasks) - 5 x 10 p. (min. 25 p.) Semestral work - 40 b. (min. 20 b.) Test - 30 p. (min. 15 p.)
