Course content
1.Definition of Agriculture and domestication centres of Vavilov. 2.Pleistocene climatic contrains and role of climatic events. 3.Subsistence and society of the Late Palaeolithic. 4.Subsistence and society of the Mesolithic. 5.The Epipalaeolithic of the Near East. 6.The Neolithic of the Near East. 7.The Epipalaeolithic and Neolithic of Northern Africa. 8.Domestication in China. 9.Domestication in Japan. 10.Centres of domestication in Africa. 11.Centres of domestication in Central America 12.Centres of domestication in South America.

Learning outcomes
Course Origins of Agriculture is based on the archaeological conceptions connected with study of global changes at the end of the Ice Age as well as with the adaptation strategies in particular domestication centres. Lectures are structured in regard of current knowledge of climatology, vegetation ecology, archaeology and social history. Cultural and ecological processes in regional centres are explained in time scale of the Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic with special attention to pre-domestic phase of the agriculture. Special attention is paid to Near East and Northern Africa, but also to Japan, China and Americas, including outfall to the development into full Neolithic period.
Students will retrieve insight in current accounts about origins of agriculture in global scale, but as well the answers about definition of the agriculture from perspective of the human culture and society evolution. Reading books from several associated disciplines and terminology knowledge is emphasised.
Prerequisites
A knowledge of history on highschool education grade.

Interview

Orientation in main course topics and monograph knowledge are required.
