Course content
|
Introduction to Toxicology. How toxic substances work? Toxicokinetics, toxicodynamics, biotransformation. Exposure, monitoring, biological monitoring. Risk evaluation and prediction of toxicity. Risk assessment. Organ toxicity. Neurotoxicity, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity. Information sources in Toxicology. Safe Handling of Chemicals. Combat substances. Accidents in chemical industry.

Learning outcomes
|
- learn the basic concepts - gain a comprehensive overview of the importance of toxicology in both industry and everyday life - understand the principles of interaction of harmful substances with living organisms (mechanism, manifestations, consequences) - project development, understanding of toxicology as an interdisciplinary scientific field - learn to use information resources in toxicology
students will strengthen these skills: working with information resources working with professional texts in English the ability to apply the information obtained to a project interdisciplinary approach critical thinking working in a team

Prerequisites
|
The course assumes knowledge of chemistry at the high school level. Ability to work on a computer, basic knowledge of the English language. It is recommended to take Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry at the same time.
