Course content
Content of lectures: Isolation, separation and analytical methods in biochemical laboratory. Isolation, extraction of proteins, detergents, isolation of membrane proteins, chromatography, electro-migration methods, centrifugation, enzymatic reaction, analytical methods, methods of optical spectroscopy.

  • Class attendance - 26 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 50 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to teach students the theoretical and experimental basics of methods used in biochemical and biophysical research. The course is designed for those students who start to work in laboratory on their diploma thesis.
An overview of modern methods in biochemistry and biophysics.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites required. Knowledge of physics, chemistry and biology at a level of secondary school. The courses UCH036 and UCH031 are not rquired but may help to better understand the topic.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Active participation on lectures, understanding of the subject. The progress is continuously checked during the course by group discussions. It is required min. 60 % in the final written exam.
