Course content
Topics: 1. Organic chemistry and biochemistry in current curricula documents; high-school-leaving examination in chemistry. 2. Fundamentals of organic chemistry: application of didactics, key terms, terminology. 3. Didactic approach to aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons. 4. Didactic approach to aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocycles. 5. Halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons - didactic approach, environmental significance of these compounds. 6. Nitrogen derivatives of hydrocarbons, organic dyes. 7. Didactic approach to alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, model examples of redox processes. 8. Carboxylic acids, their functional and substitutional derivatives. 9. Systematic organic chemistry as a base for didactical approach to naturally occuring compounds and to processes in living organisms. Model application: saccharides. 10. Didactic approach to teaching alcaloids, isoprenoids, lipids (including metabolism). 11. Didactic approach to teaching proteins and nucleic acids (including their functions in living organisms). 12. Specification of principles for a selection of taught materials in fundamentals of biochemistry at a high school. 13. Motivation effects in organic chemistry and biochemistry (history of chemistry, chemistry in normal everyday life, chemistry of the environment), education of extraordinarily gifted students - chemical contests. 14. Systemization and differentiation of taught topics, activizing methods of revision, organic chemistry and biochemistry in university entrance examinations.
