Course content
Content of lectures: Molecules in universe. The role of bioelements in structures of organisms. Moleclar organisation of biological systems. Physics of water in its biological importance. Experimental methods of study of hydrogen bonds. Gibbs energy in molecular biology, basics of therodynamics. Electrostatic interactions. Spectroscopy of dimers. Weak chemical bonds in biological molecules. Forces determining the structure of nucleic acids. Hydrophobic effect and solvatation. Ionic interaction and S-S bonds in proteins. Peptidic bond and polypeptide chain. Conformation of proteins. Ramaendran's diagrams, potential function, structure prediction. Conformation of nucleic acids, bases, sugars, angles. DNA -B, A and Z forms.

Learning outcomes
Explain role of conformations and molecular interactions for structure and function of biological molecules.
Students intensify their secondary school knowledge of physics and interdisciplinary fields (biochemistry, photobiology,...).
Prerequisites
An introductory course in biophysics, which aim is to popularize the discipline.

Oral examination, Seminar work

Student's own presentation on one of the proposed topics, discussion on this topic. Oral exam.
