Course content
1. Introduction to cultural and political history of the 20th century. 2. Outline the thematic areas of the qualification work. Discussion of students' research results with an emphasis on the analysis of bachelor's theses (presentation of the source's interpretation possibilities, main research questions). 3. Archives of the Czech Republic, libraries, museums - general characteristics of funds, electronic aids, search engines. 4. Bibliography, research and the Internet - possibilities of use, quoting methods, digitized databases of individual archives and workplaces. 5. The Structure of Qualification Works and Formal Requirements for Their Form. Scientific language. 6. Film, theater, radio record - possibilities of use and historical interpretation. Interpretation of specific material (photographs, film, map, etc.). 7. Work with an iconographic source in contemporary history. 8. How to write reviews. Reviewed magazine and review process. Annotation and resume. 9. Oral history. The genesis of the method, the legal framework (contract for rights granting), the methods of preparing the questionnaire, conducting interviews, transcripts (task - compiling a questionnaire dealing with the standard of living of citizens of CSSR in the 1980s, work with narrators). 10. Emblem and symbolism of the 20th century. 11. Interpretation of selected sources - own text, appreciation of interpretation ability. 12. The verbal value of diaries and correspondence, the possibilities of interpretation. 13. Discussion of students' research results with an emphasis on the analysis of bachelor's theses 14. Final seminar.

Learning outcomes
The students will become acquainted with the current trends in research and interpretation of the history of the 20th century, with a specific source base for this period and with Czech and foreign literature. The seminar will lead the students to narrow their specialization and apply the theoretical knowledge of methodology and historical crafts.
The student masters the work with the 20th century sources and the methodology of the modern history, knows litarature, manages to interpret sources.
