Course content
Content (14 two-hour blocks) 1. Introduction to study, word formation (simple and complex words). 2. Basic categories of nouns (declension, case, gender), adjectives of the 1st and 2nd declension. 3. - 4. Terminology of the digestive system. Noun modifiers. 5. - 6. Terminology of the circulatory and respiratory system. Nouns of the 4th declension, prefixes, expression of laterality. 7. - 8. Terminology of the musculoskeletal system - bones, body parts, muscles. Adjectives of the 3rd declension, ordinal numbers, gradation of adjectives. 9 - 10. Terminology of the nervous system, brain, sensory organs and skin. Prepositional conjunctions. 11. - 12. Terminology of the excretory and genital system, glands. The plural. 13. Expression of significant contexts of the disease (causes, temporal circumstances, origin, phases). Foreign words in Greek-Latin medical terminology. 14. Summary, final revision.

Learning outcomes
The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary for basic orientation in Greek-Latin professional terminology. Emphasis is placed on lexical and grammatical orientation in medical terminology, especially in the field of 1) anatomy, 2) physiology and pathology, and 3) diagnostics and therapy. The grammatical phenomena covered are only those that influence the formation of professional terminology (especially the flexion of nouns and adjectives and the formation of compound words). Knowledge of basic vocabulary and understanding of terms adopted into Czech professional terminology is a prerequisite for the study of other medical disciplines. The course also supports verbal logic, and increases the sense of language and cultivated speech.
After completing this course, students will have the knowledge and skills necessary for basic orientation in Greek-Latin professional medical terminology.

Attendance, tests during semester and final credit test (min. 70% success rate). The success rate of the final test can be adjusted according to the student's performance in coursework tests.
