Course content
Lectures: 1. Basics of the right approach to organization of computer workplace and the reduction of negative impact of computer work on the health. 2. Introduction of hardware and software of PC. Basic principles of PC. 3. Operational system - basic principles (Windows, Linux). 4.-9. Administration techniques in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). 10. Technologies used in the Internet (email, WWW, search services, protocols). 11. Use of the most frequently used programs for commercial and shareware operating systems. The emphasis is given on the shareware. 12.-14. Databases of scientific information. Seminars: 1. The right organization of computer workplace and rules of the right computer work. 2. Introduction of hardware and software of PC. 3. Operating system - basic principles (Windows, Linux), practice of basic instructions and definitions. 4.-9. Use of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 10. Practical use of the Internet (email, WWW, search services, protocols). 11. Introduction of the most frequently used programs for commercial shareware operating systems. The emphasis is given on the shareware. 12.-14. Examples and practical use of database of scientific information.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to show how to exploit IT in a user-friendly manner covering the topics most frequently used in future careers and in other subjects.
After successful completion of the subject the student should be able to use modern information and communication technologies both in his/her future studies and career.
Prerequisites
basic knowledge of PC and MS Windows operating system

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Analysis of student's language skills, Analysis of student's work activities (technical works)

Evaluation of active work at seminars. Successful completion of a task according to the covered topics in MS Office. Presentation of a chosen topic.
