Course content
The subject is focused on the work with selected softwares for qualitative and quantitative data analyses - as required by the chosen methods and techniques of the study. This particularly relates to the user`s knowledge of SPSS (and other selected softwares - e.g. TEXTQUEST) - particularly in the area of placing data (creation of a matrix), outputs for descriptive analyses including their interpretation (modus, mean and median; contingency table as a besis for re-categorization); in ATLAS.ti (or other softwares for qualitative analyses): creation of and dealing with categories in qualitative studies including the output in the form of diagrams, maps (etc.) or code lists.

Knowledge and skills will be acquired relating to the analysis of qualitative and quantitative using available softwares, including a complex orientation in software environments. The outputs of these programs will be graphically processed for the needs of a study and a presentation, e.g. at conferences.

The output from a data matrix developed in SPSS of a list of open codes from ATLAS.ti; re-categorization (quanti-orientation) and further coding in the qualitative strategy (possible proposals for further data processing using, e.g., the grounded theory). The data from a quantitative study will be processed using descriptive statistics, including a necessary re-categorization and a proposal of statistic tests). Students will develop an output of a selected software for the data analysis focused on their theses (particularly research strategies) - e.g. either in ATLAS.ti (in the form of maps/diagrams and a code list) or in SPSS ("output"). The discussion at the exam will be held about the data and their interpretation, including the possibilities of further software or analytic processing (selected statistic tests, further types of coding and imaging).
