Course content
1. Complex sentence - definition. 2. Subordination and types of subordinate clauses. 3.-5. Complement clauses (subject, object, attributive). 6. Relative clauses. 7.-10. Adverbial clauses - temporal, locative, causal, concessive, coordinate, purposive, conditional, attributive, restrictive, comparative. 11. Coordination and connectives. 12. Juxtaposition. 13. Complex sentences in text structure.

Learning outcomes
The main objective of the course is to present to the students the basis of the syntax of compound sentences of the French language from theoretical and practical perspective, confrontation of different approaches to syntactic descriptions. The relation between clauses will be analyzed also from the pragmatic point of view. Practice of syntactic phenomena. Comparison of Czech and French syntactic structures. Students will also learn to exploit electronic corpora (Frantext, InterCorp, FrWac).
The student applies various approaches to the syntactic analysis of complex sentences. The student identifies different types of subordinate clauses. The student produces grammatically correct complex sentences using appropriate connectives and verb forms. The student explains the specific features of French complex sentence structure in comparison with Czech.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of French language at least at the B2 common reference level.

Oral examination, Written examination
