The syllabus will be updated each semester in accordance with current socio-cultural developments in Hispanic countries. The order of topics may change and adapt to the current needs of the study group. 1. Contemporary Context of Spanish in the World 2. Indigenous tribes and their languages 3. Political systems and dictatorships 4. Human rights and violence 5. Crime and drugs 6. Deforestation and environmental protection (Amazonia) 7. Social and economic inequality 8. Migration and the Hispanic community in the USA 9. The influence of Hispanic music and culture in the world 10. Football as a cult

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the lectures is to introduce students to the current political, economic and cultural situation of Hispanic countries.
The student will get acquainted with the basic development tendencies of the current political, economic and cultural situation of contemporary Hispanic countries.

Assessment methods and criteria

Essay, Student performance assessment, Combined exam
To successfully complete the course, the following requirements must be met, at a minimum of 60% (the numbers in parentheses indicate the share of the total score): - Attendance and active participation (a student may have three absences) - Home preparation (e.g. Moodle, essays): 25% - Oral presentation: 25% - Final exam: 50%.
