Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Blended learning
Learning outcomes
The course builds on the knowledge acquired in Spanish Syntax I. It focuses on different theoretical approaches to syntactic analysis. It presents syntactic phenomena from a more general perspective and examines the role of the verb in the organisation of sentence structure. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between syntax and semantics, word order principles and functional elements of the sentence. The course also includes a contrastive view of selected syntactic phenomena in Spanish and Czech.
Students will distinguish different levels of relationships within and between sentences, identify them in authentic language material, describe them in terms of various theoretical approaches, and be able to use them actively. Learning outcomes: (a) The student will name and describe individual levels of syntactic relationships (sentence constituents, phrases, thematic roles, word order). (b) The student will explain the syntactic structure of sentences by applying various theoretical approaches to authentic language material. (c) The student will graphically represent the syntactic structure of sentences and clauses. (d) The student will use variously arranged sentence structures to achieve different communicative goals (thematization, cleft sentences, pragmatic markers). (e) The student will describe differences at the level of advanced sentence structures in Spanish and Czech.
Prerequisites
A prerequisite is knowledge of Spanish at C1 level. Prior completion of the course Spanish Syntax I is recommended.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Self-reflection, Interim evaluation

1. Mandatory attendance at seminars (3 absences allowed). 2. Active participation in class and regular completion of assignments. 3. Successful completion of the final combined exam: syntactic analysis of a text and oral interview on it.
