Course content
Lectures (1 lesson): 1. Sadness, mourning: theoretical concepts. 2. Sadness, mourning: empirical research. 3. Trauma: theoretical concepts and empirical research. 4. Suicide: theoretical concepts and empirical research. 5. Resilience: theoretical concepts and empirical research. 6. Posttraumatic development: theoretical concepts and empirical research. 7. The system of providing psychosocial assistance in the Czech Republic. 8. Process- and result-oriented standards of psychosocial crisis assistance and cooperation. 9. The system of providing post-traumatic care for responders in the Czech Republic. The Debriefing Debate. 10. Assistance centre: Czech and foreign experiences. Seminars (1 lesson): 1. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course in the lectures is to introduce students to basic theoretical concepts and empirical research from the psychology of extraordinary events. Bring them closer to the system of providing psychosocial assistance provided by persons included in the basic components of the IZS and collaborating partners from the non-profit sector. The aim of the course in the seminars is to teach students to provide first psychological aid to people affected by an emergency.
Expanding the view of the intervention activity of the basic and other components of the IRS to include the psychosocial area. Acquiring basic skills in providing psychological first aid. Motivating students to become involved in the system of providing psychosocial assistance on a volunteer basis. Support of teamwork and cooperation of students to prepare an engaging contribution from the psychosocial field on a topic of their choice in working groups.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written test (80% share of the final grade), joint presentation of the working group (20% share of the final grade). Students are required to attend at least 90% of seminars. If they miss more lessons, they must make up for each missed lesson by writing an essay on one page of A4 (30 lines, 60 keystrokes). That is, if they miss three two-hour seminars above the tolerated limit of 90% participation, for example, they have to write a six-page essay.
