Course content
Lectures: 1. History of social work and ethical rules of social work. 2. Ethical code of social workers in the Czech Republic. 3. Personality and role of social worker, professional relationship between social worker and client (individual, family, group, community). 4. Professional qualifications for social worker performance, lifelong learning. 5. Dilemmas of contemporary social work. 6. Psychodynamic theory. 7. Psychosocial approaches in social work. 8. Humanistic and existential perspectives. 9. Social psychological and communication models. 10. Role theory, Labeling theory. 11. Systemic approach and its use in social work. 12. Antiopressive approach in social work. 13. Task-oriented approach. 14. Socio-ecological perspectives. Seminars: 1.-2. Introduction to the problems of social work: definition, goals, values in relation to human rights, respect for human diversity, social justice, discussion and topics of the principle of uniqueness, the principle of subsidiarity and the principle of team, multidisciplinary cooperation. 3.-4. Personality of social worker, general and professional prerequisites of social worker, professional relationship between social worker and client in social work. Communication in social work. Ethical Code of Social Workers - Ethics and Values in Social Work. Mind map, discussion. 5.-6. Dilemmas in Social Work: Contemporary and Historically Originated. Discussion. 7.-8. Psychodynamic perspectives, humanistic and existential perspectives - casuistry, discussion. 9.-10. Social psychological and communication models, Psychosocial approach - case studies, discussion. 11.-12. Systemic approach, Role theory, Labeling theory - case studies, discussion. 13.-14. Task-oriented approach, client-oriented approach, Socio-ecological approach, Anti-repressive approach - case reports, discussion.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the understanding of the definition of social work, its aims, basic concepts. The aim is also to enable students to orientate in selected theories of social work and to understand the theoretical basis of social work as a science, including ethical and philosophical aspects and dilemmas in social work. The student will become familiar with the specifics of the social worker's profession in relation to other helping professions.
Competences acquired - the student is able to define the concept of social work and its definition - the student is able to define the role of social worker including his identification in accordance with Act No. 108/2006 Coll. as amended - the student understands social work as a helping profession in the context of ethical dilemmas - The student is able to reflect current and developmental dilemmas of social work - shows respect for the client, strives for equal relations between people without any discrimination - The student is well versed in basic theoretical approaches of social work

Oral examination, Systematic student observation, Test, Self-reflection

Requirements for the student: the course is completed by credit and oral exam. Conditions for granting credit and exam: - active preparation and work in seminars, test (80% success rate); - Successful passing of an oral exam.
