Course content
|
Lectures: 1 lecture, 2 hours 1-2. Definition of basic terms: community and its types, community work, community social work, community worker, community events, community treatment, community development, community approach. History and development of community social work in the Czech Republic. 3-4. History and development of community social work abroad. Functions, goals, and strategies of community social work. 5-6. Methods and principles of community social work. Models and processes of community social work. Community education. Community school - specifics, examples. Community worker, their characteristics and position in the community. 7-8. The role of social workers in municipalities - identifying local needs, informing citizens about sources of assistance. The role of social workers in municipalities - networking, screening, mediating, and coordinating assistance. 9-10. Community planning of social services. Development plans for social services. The community work process - working with a community plan. Participants in community planning. Community planning - examples of good practice. 11-12. Community project - procedure for its preparation and implementation. SWOT analysis. Evaluation and financing of community projects. 13. Therapeutic community. Training community. 14. Community social work with excluded and marginalized groups. Seminars: During the seminars, individual theoretical chapters will be analyzed, discussed, and practiced. 1. Social needs and social change - case studies, group work, joint discussion. 5. Community education. Community school - specifics, examples from practice. Community worker, their characteristics and position in the community - role-playing, model situations. 6. The role of social workers in municipalities - strengths and weaknesses in performing social work in municipalities, examples from practice. 7. Community social work clients - model situations, role-playing, discussion. 8. Communication in the community - role-playing, group work, model situations for practicing communication. Community planning of social services and social service development plans - practical examples. 9. Community work process - working with a community plan, working in groups. Community planning - examples of good practice, discussion. 10. Community project - developing a community project, including SWOT analysis, working in groups, project presentation. 11. Therapeutic community. Training community - video examples from practice, discussion. 12. Self-help and support group - examples from practice. Community social work with marginalized groups - examples from practice, discussion. 13. Community social work with excluded groups - practical examples, discussion. Elements of community work at the municipal level - discussion, group work, reflection on practical experience. 14. Examples of good practice in the Czech Republic and abroad - video examples from practice, discussion.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the topic of social work with different types of communities and to inform them about the approaches, methods, and techniques used in this field.
Students will acquire knowledge of basic concepts in the field of social work with communities, its history, methods and principles, the role of social workers, community planning, and community projects. At the same time, they will gain knowledge about community work with specific target groups (e.g., excluded, marginalized, drug addicts). Furthermore, students will acquire the ability to work with different types of communities, develop a community plan, and compile, implement, and evaluate a community project. They will be able to find and evaluate examples of good practice in the field of community social work.
