The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the phenomenon of intergenerational solidarity within the contemporary family in the care of the elderly. These informal caregivers are perceived, first of all, as an invisible group whose needs largely overlap with those of the people they care for. Political measures tend to take the form of social services for those receiving care and symbolic recognition of the rights of caregivers in the form of various types of relief and benefits. Secondly, informal caregivers are perceived as a separate group for which specific measures and services are designed.
During the course, students will acquire the following skills: -they will learn about the theoretical concepts of social support as a context for intergenerational solidarity -they will connect their knowledge in the field of social policy and social work, including the role of social workers in the informal care system for seniors -they will be able to provide social support to families who decide to care for a senior in a home environment -be able to support families in using and combining formal and informal care -be able to provide professional counseling to families -be able to work with families within the framework of institutional support
