Course content
1. Sociology as a science - conditions for the development of the scientific discipline of sociology, its focus and function. Transformations of the human society, historical development. Traditional society, modern and postmodern, globalized society. 2. Current mass culture and consumerism. Signs, development, structure, social change. Sociological imagination. Selection from the history of sociology, trends and paradigms (A. Comte, É. Durkheim, V. Pareto, M. Weber, Frankfurt School, etc). 3. Czech sociology. Current sociology, its forms and roles. 4. Society, its structure. Social stratification, stratification standpoints. Social status, prestige, stigma, stereotypes. Social mobility. Open and closed social systems. 5. Social (in) equity. Social inclusion, exclusion, marginality, poverty, integration approaches. 6. Social role, identity. Social institutions, groups and formations. Mass behavior and team behavior. Conflict theories, consensus, conflict types, conflict management (Coser, Dahrendorf). 7. Norm, conformity, social control. Anomie. Conception of social pathology, theory of the origin of socially pathological phenomena (labeling, theory of the structural pressure, functionalism, etc.), positive and negative risk behaviors. Prevention of socially pathological phenomena. 8. Family and the current society. Sociology of the family. Development, functions, types. Socialization. Current family forms and forms of partner life. Negative behaviors in the family. 9. Harmonization of work and care. Gender and gender socialization, gender stereotypes. 10. Nation, ethnic group, minority. Models of inter-ethnic relationships. Forms and types of the majority-minority relationship. 21 11. Race, racism, xenophobia, ethnocentrism. Extremism as a social phenomenon. Theoretical approaches to the origin of prejudices and discrimination. 12. Role of the religion in the present world, secularized society. Religious fundamentalism. Multiculturalism. Migration in the present world. 13. Society, conception of time and life course. Health and diseases. Quality of life 14. Basic methods of sociological study of the society. Qualitative and quantitative research strategies. Research plan, basic steps.

Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on the basic sociological theories, conceptions, their views of a man and the surrounding world. It explains the basic sociological terms and puts them into practice. Students will learn the basic processes of sociological imagination and its use in practice. The subject is focused on the possibilities of using sociological tools in the reflection of future practice. It explains the causes of the origin of sociology, its functions, and presents the transformations of the human society, the definition of the social stratification, mobility, social roles, social formations and the basic social processes in a globalized society. It mentions the influence of affirmative inequities on the social status of an individual, the family and gender sociology, labor sociology, etc.
Students will: Get an overview of the key concepts of the sociological theory and its possibilities in practice Understand the basic sociological terminology and will be able to use it actively Understand and perceive the social reality from the point of view of sociology Be oriented in the problems of social reality and social relationships in the present society.
